Reupholstering: More Fabric Options and Better Durability

Most of us have pieces of furniture that we love in our home that have seen better days. If you have chairs or couches that are looking a little under the weather, instead of leaving them curbside, consider reupholstering.

Reviving Your Beloved Pieces

The furniture in our homes usually holds a lot of meaning for us and provides us with a place to relax after a long day. It’s inevitable that furniture will ultimately suffer from some wear and tear, but older furniture pieces were typically made to last. If you have a strong and sturdy piece, consider keeping it and reviving it with new upholstery. This avenue is also more cost-efficient than buying something new.

What’s the best part of reupholstering? The customization element and the fact that there are more fabric options to choose from! Breathe new life into a chair or sofa by choosing a new exterior which will have it looking like new– but how do you know which fabric is right?

The Wearability Test

In the United States, we use a process called the Wyzenbeek test, or the “double-rub” test as it’s sometimes known. This test consists of the fabric being rubbed back and forth with cotton duck fabric to replicate the effects of a person sitting down or getting up from an upholstered seat.

The basic codes that come from these tests are: Heavy Duty, Medium Duty, Light Duty, or Delicate Duty. You can decide which fabric is right for you after considering how much wear and tear your fabric might face.

At Design Craft Upholstery, Inc., we pride ourselves on having a better selection of fabrics than factories, and have a wide range of fabric durability to choose from. For more information or to speak with one of our experts, contact us via our contact form or call us at 425-775-7620!
